[NEWS - ENG TRANS] 120907 FTISLAND has sasaeng fans who passed motion...

PLEASE TAKE OUT WITH FULL CREDITS, INCLUDING TRANSLATORS. THANK YOU ^^

There was a period of time in the music world where the issue of idol groups' members' disharmony became a topic of discussion. "Where is there a group where the members did not argue?": When the managers of the music world were discussing 'close cooperation within a group', FTISLAND stood out.

They, who unveiled LOVE SICK in 2007 and immediately went up to the peak of popularity, put the Korean fans aside in 2008 and headed towards the Japanese market, starting from the bottom - just like a Japanese rock band, moving upwards step by step. During their free periods when they were temporarily back in Korea, even though they were tortured with the harsh criticism of being 'has-beens', they climbed to the top of the Oricon charts and received many positive comments in Korea with Love Love Love and Severely, allowing everyone to know that they had not thus failed.

FTISLAND, who has suffered much since a young age, their pillar of strength is the strong friendship which exists between members. "There are no groups where disagreements did not emerge; we've also used fists to settle problems, at a time when they were about to break up", they "now feel that it's amazing how such great people can be in a group together and made promises, but at the end, they still returned to the hostel together with the members", revealing their deep friendship, as thick as broth which has been boiled for 10 hours.

"Don't know how many bottles is the limit". We came with FTISLAND, who can't mask their ability to drink, to their secret place, a certain coffee house in Seoul's Cheongdam-dong. While revealing stories about "drinking until regurgitating and then being sent to the emergency room", "cleaning up a the 'regurgitated contents' together" and others, because of the happy sharing and recalling, 2 hours were unknowingly passed.

FORTUNE TELLER SAID THAT IT WILL BE A GREAT SUCCESS

-- Please first introduce the 4th album, FIVE TREASURE BOX.

JH: Because this is a band which is in its 6th year after debut, this time, the album was made according to our wishes. Within the 10 songs, 6 are ours; the guitar riff, sounds, songs, types are all done by us personally.

-- The hit song "I Wish" is Kim Do Hoon's work; would you feel that it's not to your tastes?

JJ: In actual fact, we're very upset. But because from the company's perspective, we had to consider the majority. That's not saying that the songs we wrote don't fit the majority, but we console ourselves by thinking that we still have 2% of incompetence. "I Wish" is a song with pop-rock uniqueness, but we still love the songs we made. Deep down, we're thinking that in the next or follow album, can our song finally become the main song? A fortune teller, whom we are close to, said that the album will sell well, so we're having high hopes.

THERE WERE SASAENG FANS WHO PASSED MOTION AND LEFT

-- From the time that you debuted, there were many passionate fans.

MH: Because we asked the sasaeng fans to control themselves, so recently, it has not been very serious. It was really serious during the first album; we would hear the door bell ring all the time, there were taxis following us and also knocking into our van before. There were also many incidents where they entered the dormitory or vans to take away stuff, there were also fans who lived at the emergency stairwell of our dormitories. Because there were people who saw excretion at the emergency doors, the security guards made a huge fuss, haha.

-- Pushing your popularity to the back of your minds and leaving for Japan, it's as if you didn't wish to go.

SH: We really didn't wish to go: we didn't even know one word of Japanese, we didn't know why we had to go. But now, we're very thankful to the company. If at that time, such a decision was not made, we might have become idols who only followed the arrangements of the company.

-- How do you feel about life in Japan?

MH: We lived in a small Japanese house with manager-hyung. In the first week that we were there, we immediately did recordings. At that time, we didn't know what we needed to do; we were only angry with ourselves. At first, because of the language barrier, we were unable to properly buy things. So we could only eat Army Stew, instant noodles and bacon for those days. Even the housework was done by us ourselves. Fans gave us three bicycles: when we were irritated, we would ride the bicycles from Yoyogi to Harajuku as a consolation. It was very hard on Hongki-hyung because of his homesickness.

-- When was the time when you felt like you were having a mental breakdown?

JH: It was tough in Japan, our album sales in Korea were not good, and then we cried as we returned once again to Japan. Although it was tough, it wasn't as if saying all those things could change the facts so everyone bore down and lived painfully. We felt wronged, and we would also throw tantrums. It was then that we got the hang of band music: music was what we could only do, music was also where we could vent our frustrations.

WHEN CREATING A NEW WORK, MOBILE PHONES WILL BE TAKEN AWAY

-- Recently, idols' disharmony has become a big topic. How is dormitory life?

HK: I feel that living together in a dormitory for us is great. Although I don't know what it's like for the other groups, but we would work on songs together throughout the night. Even when discussing music, we can also immediately perform it together. Recorded in the album is WANNA GO (composed by Minhwan and Seunghyun), which is a song which I felt was nice when I was sitting in the toilet listening and supervising.

-- Do you quarrel often?

HK: Of course; wouldn't it be weird if we didn't quarrel? When we first debuted, we quarreled everyday. The members were going through puberty, the schedules were packed, everyone was sensitive, but I think it was a process of getting used to one another. Because we were all males, we would also swing fists. Now that I think about it, they are all small and insignificant matters. Like after cooking noodles, our ex-member Wonbin suddenly decided he wanted to have it. Then he quarreled with me, and we even used our fists.

-- Although you quarrel often, the secret to having such good teamwork is?

SH: Everyone is angry together, but we won't blame someone. That should be the secret. But after a while, the person who did wrong will coolly admit it. When we note that someone is not feeling good or feeling tired, we would show concern for him. Now that I look at it, I'm very thankful to God that everyone gets along so well.

-- When at the dormitory, the phones will be taken away. As long as new works are being created, phones will be taken away?

MH: (The phones) are definitely not given (to us), haha. Because there are many distractions around us, like seniors often inviting us to go drinking. If we have a real handphone around, it is easy for us to be distracted, although even without the phone, we'd use the public phones to call and then go out to play.
